Petanque Horror Stories continued in Part two

Confusion 2

This section is proudly entitled Confusion Two. Confusion in Petanque has a well defined top ten and now we have the top twenty. From your reaction to the above moments we have complied your stories. Remember all those practice tips we have applied will be wiped aside in a game if you fall foul of Confusing two moments.

11. Player watching the end being completed applies suntan lotion to arms and neck. Then proceeds to pick up two of the oppositions boule saying "Are these yours?" Helpful but a little slippery CP 3 GF 2

12. The opposition have worked out that the scoreboard on a post placed through the sleeper surrounding the pitch moves if you place your foot on the sleeper. Now this would have gone unnoticed until they thought we were pointing. My team-mate changes their mind and stands up to shoot. The offending opposition player panics as he is stood at the wrong end of the pitch. He runs up the piste to place his foot on the Sleeper. CP 4 GF 2

13. The measure of two boule is in question and both teams believe they are holding. One of the opposing team mention the calling of an independent to measure the boule. You agree and they turn around and shout "Harry mate have you got a moment" CP 1 GF 2

14. The opposing team suddenly break out into a row. They argue and shout at each other as to who is to blame for their predicament. Fingers are pointed and they then stand simmering in silence. Before you know it they have won the game playing very well as a team. Did the row sort out their problems as a team or distract you from the game. Unpleasant situations can cause you to rush your shots and thus play badly. Funny how bad temper and good results can go together with some players.

CP 6 GF 5

15. It is getting dark and the opposition ask "You don't want the lights on do you?" The wording is very specific and leads you to say "No that's OK" You lose the game the next end in the gloom. CP 5 GF 8

16. ( Old Rule but we will look at it again using the new rule later). The opposition walk out the jack you have thrown and state it is too short. You agree and rethrow the jack. It is still short, you both agree and you throw the jack again. This time it zips out to ten and a half metres. They kick it back half a metre and give you a thumbs up. Guess what length they prefer CP 3 GF 7

17.During the introduction at the start of the Game it is amazing how many times one player has never played before. CP 3 GF 6

18. I do not mind if you knock our boule up. So often stated by the opposition. This statement draws your eye to the boule you are trying to miss. Your eye should be trained on the landing spot. You hit their boule and put it on. Can also work when you are shooting.Taking out your own boule CP 1 GF 4

19. We have played complete rubbish today or We are having a really bad day. They, however, have won all of their games!

CP 4 GF 2

20. You are eased out of contention by three points in a snake competition. Oh. well better luck next time. Well, you know the team you caught being confused as to which side of the scoreboard they were using. They were just as confused putting their results to the harassed organiser. A 13-1 loss became a much tighter game at 13- 10. As well as a 13 -10 win became 13-1

CP 9 GF 3

All the above are easily done in the confusion of a game. The only reason I am trying to point out the errors that may occur is it is always in the oppositions favour. Funny that!

CP Confusion Points stolen factor This can vary in any end from 1 to 6

GF Gullibility factor

1-4 Could happen to anyone

4-8 Could happen to any idiot

8- 10 Are you allowed out on your own
