Placing the petanque circle over the jack.

Updated: Jul 30, 2024

We are looking at circle placement and how a little movement can mean a lot. Placing the circle over the jack is clearly in the rules but just a careful placement can mean the difference between throwing the jack at your length of giving the opposition the jack and in some cases the circle.  For example, you have thrown the jack to 6.2m and won the end. The circle of this end was 50cm from the end of the piste boundary. Direction of play is up and down in the photo.  If you place the circle as shown it gives you a larger area to throw a legal jack back in the other direction. It is going to be tricky but every little helps! Just a thought
