Pointing your boule not too close to the jack!

So we are trying to point into a space near but not too close to the jack. To practise these close but not too close shots draw a line at right angles to the circle through the jack about 6 inches either side of the jack. Now using the jack as the centre point draw an arc to make the line into a D. The line can be scratched in the ground or lay your string or twine on the ground. Practice pointing into the D and not just at the jack. You can score the session by throwing 24 boule at set lengths and scoring 1 point for any boule inside or touching the D but no points for any boule outside the D, yes even those three inches behind the jack!.. A boule in front is an obstacle for the opposition. A boule behind the jack is a gentle resting-place for them.
In the photo we can see the two boule behind the D do not count in the session. Only the individual boule in the D scores. The throwing circle is left past the player standing and is out of sight further up the piste.
Remember practice at all lengths not just your favourite
