Team Play
So are coming to the end of the Petanque Coaching tips and soon launch a more technical group aimed at Coaches as well as players. Here we are rounding up the series with Team play, Roles and tips to all the team. These tips can play an active part in helping a team to victory even if they are playing total rubbish.
Passing People. Behind the jack
Your teammates should be standing at the jack end when you are throwing. They can stand anywhere in the head when you are playing although if the boule touches them it will be disqualified so not too close. They can act as a sight screen for the player throwing. Any movement behind the jack can be masked out by them standing in the way. They should be aware of people walking behind the jack just as the player in the circle is throwing. Most people will stop while the shot is played if they are aware it is happening.
Passing People. Behind the player
I have lost count of the people who have put me off by stepping onto the terrain behind me just as I am throwing. Or even worse, walked into my back swing as I have thrown. Your teammates will only be eight metres away. They can warn you if it is about to happen. You cannot take back a badly thrown boule because some one has made a noise behind you crunching on gravel.
Other boule.
The chances of boule coming into the head and moving boule are becoming greater as more people turn up to competitions and the shooting game grows in the UK. Marking boule is the safest way but sometimes unexpected boule flash into the head. These can be stopped by feet in certain situations by your team mates. They need to be watchful and careful as boule can bounce up and hit ankles or they can stand on them and fall over. Who said this game was boring!
If you wish to use these tips please feel free to copy them for use in coaching.
